Cab signals - signals on the train driver's control panel - are a very succesful safety measure introduced in the United States on their high-speed lines.
The earlier version merely had lights vertically aligned up the centre of a narrow rectangular panel, in the same general format as the signals on the trackside poles or gantries.
Early pattern Cab Signal - "Stop": ... before reaching the trackside signal
This is an "Absolute Stop" signal
The more recent version includes speed limits in the display, and the lights are duplicated in the display, presenting an at-the-glance view that also reminds one of the three positions of a semaphore signal...
upright green lights for "clear", amber lights at 45 degrees for "caution" and red lights horizontally for "stop".
Later pattern Cab Signal - "Proceed at Nominated Speed": ... speed to be adjusted before reaching the trackside signal
This is a "Clear to proceed at 20mph" signal
While Australia does not use this type of Automatic Train Control, there is no reason why you should not enable it on any route you wish to drive your simulator on.
This is an editor function and can be set easily. Please refer to the section on this website which describes how you construct and/or modify a route.
